LHC fail

Oops.

On 19 September 2008, during powering tests of the main dipole circuit in Sector 3-4 of the LHC, a fault occurred in the electrical bus connection in the region between a dipole and a quadrupole, resulting in mechanical damage and release of helium from the magnet cold mass into the tunnel.

What’s a multi-billion dollar international project without a few melted superconducting magnets?

Although “Higgs Boson Particle to be observed on/before 31 Dec 2009″ only fell to 40.0 on Intrade after all this. Seems awfully high since they’re not even plugging this thing back in until next spring.

Is this a long way of saying that the Large Hardon Collider had whiskey dick?

    Yeah, that sounds about right.
